The Clown School to Welcome Back Dr. Brown, Begin. 5/17

Beginning Sunday, May 17, from 5-9pm, The Clown School kicks off its seven-week summer session with another installment of the multi-award winning clown Phil Burgers' Masterclasses. Mr. Burgers, aka Dr. Brown, has dazzled audiences around the world since 2009 and has been teaching with The Clown School since last year. Suitable for clowns with a moderate level of previous clowning experience, or for those who have taken class with The Clown School before, Dr. Brown's Masterclasses will prepare students to have the proverbial rug pulled out from under them, again and again. Not for the faint of heart, Dr. Brown's class promises to be a mind-blowing, extraordinary experience.

"The Clown School is a place where the spirit can be rediscovered, nurtured, and then re-introduced into the culture by having a whole bunch of idiots - the participants - go out into the world and entertain people with their stupidity, their generosity, their genuine vulnerability, their openness, their absurd and unique take on the world, and their ability to reveal a deeper humanity we all can identify with but have lost touch with in some ways. It's also just a great place to be an idiot!" exclaims Mr. Burgers, regarding his experiences teaching with The Clown School this past year. Of the class, Artistic Director David Bridel explains, "We base our work in the discipline of clown because we believe that clowning embraces and celebrates the totality of the human experience and offers unparalleled freedom in art. We love to play!"

The Masterclasses run weekly from Sunday 5/17 through Sunday 6/27, from 5pm-9pm. Classes will be held at Live Arts LA in Eagle Rock and the fee is $395, with discounts offered to those who have previously attended a Clown School class. Later this summer, The Clown School will initiate a four-day Summer Intensive lead by Clown School director David Bridel, for returning clowns or those with previous clown experience who wish to continue their journey. Likewise, discounts are available for previous students as well as those who invite their friends to join The Clown School's mailing list and Facebook and Twitter pages.
