Sylvia Brooks Debuts at Catalina Jazz Club
After several sold out engagements at the Jazz Bakery and Sterling's Upstairs at Vitello's, Sylvia Brooks will be making her Catalina Bar & Grill debut on April 13, with musical direction and arrangements by Tom Garvin and six musicians.
Brooks' "vocal stylings and sultry stage presence harkens back to an era of truly legendary singers," state press notes. "Some may say that she's a cross between Judy Garland and Julie London, but all will say that she has a distinctive sound all her own."
A musical theatre performer, Brooks has starred as Dorothy Brock in numerous productions of 42nd Street both nationally and internationally. Other regional credits include Anything Goes, Man of LaMancha, The Mad Woman of Chaillot and West Side Story. No stranger to television, Ms. Brooks has guest starred on "Bay Watch," "General Hospital," "Dallas" and "Designing Women."
Tom Garvin, who has written and arranged for Diana Krall, Anita Baker, Sarah Vaughn and Carmen McRae, now arranges a selection of songs from The Great American Songbook for Brooks, fashioning them into uniquely rich and original musical events.
