South Coast Rep to Premiere Cho's THE LANGUAGE ARCHIVE in 2010 Season

By:

Julia Cho's THE LANGUAGE ARCHIVE will receive its premiere at the South Coast Repertory Theatre as a part of their 2010 season. The show received a reading in 2009 as a part of SCR's Pacific Playwrights Festivals. The show will be directed by Mark Brokaw and will play March 26th to April 25th at the Segerstrom Stage.

The play surrounds a linguist who has trouble with his most prized possession, words, as his marraige begins to come undone. The play was originally commissioned by Roundabout, who has granted SCR permission to host the premiere production.

Cho is the author of the successful 2007 play, The Piano Teacher, which also premiered at South Coast Repertory. The Piano Teacher shows how deeply war can affect those who face it. Cho also wrote Durango, which was featured on Charles McNulty's "Best of" list in 2007. Durango first played L.A.'s East West Players.

Mark Brokaw's New York credits include After Miss Julie, Distracted, The Constant Wife, Suddenly Last Summer (Roundabout); Mouth to Mouth, This Is Our Youth (New Group); The Long Christmas Ride Home, Stranger, The Dying Gaul, How I Learned to Drive (Vineyard Theatre); Reckless (Manhattan Theatre Club/Second Stage Theatre); Lobby Hero (Playwrights Horizons); As Bees in Honey Drown (Drama Dept.); The Good Times are Killing Me (Second Stage); Old Money (Lincoln Center Theater); 2.5 Minute Ride (The Public Theater); and the musical Cry-Baby. Other work includes productions at Guthrie Theater, Mark Taper Forum, Seattle Rep, La Jolla Playhouse, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Huntington Theatre, Berkeley Rep, Hartford Stage, Long Wharf, New York Stage & Film, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Sundance, and the O'Neill Conference. He has also directed at London's Donmar Warehouse and Dublin's Gate Theatre. A graduate of Yale School of Drama, Mark is the Artistic Director of the Yale Institute for Music Theatre and is an Associate Artist of the Roundabout Theatre.
