SkyPilot Lands Its Newest Runway Project, a Live-Staged Reading of FIGMENTS

Following the great success of its recent B-Movie-themed fundraiser this past February, the award-winning SkyPilot Theatre Company announces its selection for its acclaimed Runway staged reading series: Figments, performing this Thursday, March 15 at 8pm at River Rock Lounge, 12825 Ventura Blvd., Studio City. Admission is free.

Figments, written by Thomas J. Misuraca and directed by Stephen Juhl, is the latest play selected for Runway, which partners with L.A.-based playwrights to help develop new plays in the early draft stage. Readings are rehearsed and performed, followed by a focused feedback session with the participation of the audience.

In Figments, Samuel (Christopher Palle) has rented a cottage in Cape Cod in the middle winter to finish writing his novel. With him is his mother Gladys (Kelly Goodman), who does not believe her son has any talent. Throughout the week, Samuel is also visited by the beautiful Becky (Erisa Byrd), an apparent fan, and best friend Andy (Ian Nemser) - all of which may or may not be real, given a family history of hallucinations. Samuel quickly learns that in order to escape these "figments," he must face some uncomfortable truths. The stage directions will be read by Karen Brundage.

SkyPilot's upcoming productions include Midnight Requisition, premiering April 5, The Bitch is Back - An Elton John Cabaret this June, and Fursona Non Grata by Jeff Goode in the fall.

Founded in 2004, SkyPilot is a non-profit ensemble company of resident playwrights, actors, directors and designers producing provocative, compelling and challenging new works for the Los Angeles theatre-going audience. In 2010 SkyPilot moved away from producing revivals and began writing and producing only original plays. Notable productions have included Samantha Macher's To The New Girl and War Bride, Adam Hahn's Kong: A Goddamn Thirty-Foot Gorilla, Nathan Wellman's Inhale Harmonica, Liz Shannon Miller's Light's Off, Eyes Closed, Jeff Goode's The Emancipation Of Alabaster Mcgill, Greg Machlin's Keith Haring: Pieces of a Life, and Earthbound: An Electronica Musical by Adam Hahn (book), Jonathan Price (music), and Chana Wise (lyrics). In 2017 SkyPilot launched its SkyPilot Runway development track, beginning with Daniel Rover Singer's newest work, The Cave, along with its most recent double bill Absence Makes the Heart/Comb Your Hair or You'll Look Like a Slave.
