Sixth Avenue's Town Hall Reading Series Continues Tonight with PARTNERS

Sixth Avenue has announced that Town Hall: A Back Room Play Reading Series will continue with Partners by Dorothy Fortenberry. The play will be read for one night only, tonight, September 9 at 8pm at Akbar in Silver Lake.

In Partners, four friends in Brooklyn share everything until it turns out they don't. Clare is straight and obsessed with gay marriage. Her best friend Ezra is gay and obsessed with Clare's career. Helpful hints turn into painful betrayals in this spiky comedy about sex and money that asks: how much do we owe to those we love?

Directed by Larissa Kokernot (Gruesome Playground Injuries at Rogue Machine Theatre), the cast will include Navaris Darson (2 Broke Girls, The Groundlings Sunday Company), Emma Fassler (Californication, Tickled Pink at The Laguna Playhouse), Jeffery Self (Jeffery & Cole Casserole, Gay of Thrones), and Armand Vasquez (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, All My Sons at The Matrix Theatre Company). Dorothy Fortenberry's play Partners premiered this spring at the Actors Theatre of Louisville's Humana Festival of New American Plays and was subsequently produced by Chicago's Live Wire Theatre. Her work has been developed and produced by theaters across the country, including Arena Stage, Chalk Rep, Center REP, Page 73, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. She lives in Los Angeles, where she writes for the CW television series The 100. Fortenberry is a winner of the 2011 Helen Merrill Award for Emerging Playwrights, a two-time finalist for the O'Neill National Playwrights Conference, and a MacDowell Colony Fellow. She holds an M.F.A. from the Yale School of Drama and is currently working on a commission for Yale Repertory Theatre.

Sixth Avenue was founded by Adam Silver in 2011 with a focus on creating bold and boundary-pushing theatre experiences that continue the conversation long after the event. Productions include the world premiere of Fact & Fiction by William Nedved, directed by Dámaso Rodriguez and the Los Angeles premiere of Nerve by Adam Szymkowicz, directed by Michael Matthews.

Town Hall is Sixth Avenue's new monthly play reading series on the second Tuesday of every month at Akbar. Next month, on October 14, Sixth Avenue will read 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche by Evan Linder and Andrew Hobgood, which has had critically-acclaimed productions in Chicago and Off-Broadway at the SoHo Playhouse, in addition to winning "Best Overall Production" at the 2012 New York International Fringe Festival. Past Town Hall readings include Hit the Wall by Ike Holter and The Avenue of Saints by William Nedved.
