SPLIT/SCREEN at L.A. Fringe Festival to Benefit Local Veterans

OneTrickDog* has announced a fundraising campaign during its production of Monique Witt's split/screen to benefit Saddles For Soldiers. The play which opens on June 5th at The Hollywood Fringe Festival explores the spiritual and psychological transformation of a wealthy and jaded young man injured and wheelchair bound after a successful summit of Everest. Saddles for Soldiers is a program designed specifically by Shadow Hills Riding Club to assist United States Veterans and their families cope with the traumas and stressors returning from combat, long term depression, reestablishing life skills and readjustment into civilian life through the use of horses.

split/screen will be directed by Wendy Thum and run for ten performances starting on June 5th at The Actors Company, 916 N. Formosa Avenue in West Hollywood. The cast will feature actors Alex Montaldo and Adam Rashad Glenn who appeared in the NYC production at the Helen Mills Theatre. Ted Jonas and Chris Karmiol will fill out the cast. This production will also feature original music composed for split/screen by jazz pianist Ben Rosenblum, sound design by Dev Avidon, vocal performances by blues guitarist Tom Larsen, and video by Kahleem Poole-Tejada.

Press preview performances of split/screen will be held on June 5 at 5:30 pm and June 6 at 7:00 pm. The opening night will be on Thursday, June 11 at 7:00pm. Performances will continue on June 12 at 10:00 pm, June 13 at 6:30 pm, June 14 at 2:00 pm, June 18 at 5:30 pm, June 19 at 7:00 pm, June 20 at 12:00 pm, and June 21 at 10:00 pm.

Monique Witt, the playwright, is a retired attorney and professional writer who runs OneTrickDog*, an independent production company and jazz label. A workshop version of her play, split/screen, premiered in New York City at The Helen Mills Theater, November 21, 2013. The work played to packed houses and received enthusiastic reviews from both audiences and press. In 2014, OneTrickDog* also released new albums from a number of critically acclaimed artists, including respected jazz pianist Roy Assaf and saxophonist Jonathan Parker. The label looks forward to the spring release of three new albums from blues guitarist Tom Larsen, jazz trumpeter Wayne Tucker, and jazz violinist Ben Sutton. Monique is currently developing the TV series, creative dark, with producer Wendy Thum.

The Hollywood Fringe Festival is an annual, open-access, community-derived event celebrating freedom of expression and collaboration in the performing arts community. Each June during the Hollywood Fringe, the arts infiltrate the Hollywood neighborhood: fully equipped theaters, parks, clubs, churches, restaurants and other unexpected places host hundreds of productions by local, national, and international arts companies and independent performers.
