SINGIN' IN THE RAIN Comes to Life Onstage at SLO Little Theatre

By:
The San Luis Obispo Little Theatre invites audiences to its biggest show of the year, the beloved musical comedy based on the classic MGM movie musical SINGIN' IN THE RAIN, opening Friday, February 13 and running through March 15, 2015. 1920's Hollywood is the setting for this zany, lighthearted romantic comedy about the early days of sound film, when many a movie studio found itself scrambling to salvage the career of its chipmunk-voiced silent picture star. The MGM classic has been faithfully and lovingly adapted into a stage musical, first produced on Broadway in 1985. Each unforgettable scene, song and dance, is accounted for, including the show-stopping title number, complete with onstage rainstorm! Hilarious situations, snappy dialogue, and a hit-parade score of Hollywood standards make Singin' In The Rain the perfect entertainment for any fan of the golden age of movie musicals.

The Little Theatre's production of SINGIN' IN THE RAIN is directed by Kevin Harris, with musical direction by Lacey McNamara and choreography by Zach Johnson, who also plays the role of Cosmo Brown (memorably portrayed by Donald O'Conner in the film.) The talented cast of 22 local actors includes: Jeff Salsbury as Don Lockwood, Kerry DiMaggio as Kathy Selden and Melanie Portney as Lina Lamont, along with Bo Wolf, Bobby Kendrick, Colleen McAdams, Doug Simmons, Ed Cardoza, John Mackey, Keith Stanfield, Kristen Saunders, Larry Kaml, Lauren Moore, Lizz Premer, Meghan Hornbacker, Michelle Hansen, Nicole Cortese, Nicole Holst, Noah Goldsmith, Tara Brinkman and Valerie Pallai.

SINGIN' IN THE RAIN will premiere with a GALA OPENING NIGHT CELEBRATION on Friday, February 13, beginning at 5:30 pm. The formal event will feature generous pre-show hors d'oeuvres, cocktails and wine from Opolo Vineyards and a movie-themed gift basket silent auction in the theatre lobby. Guests are encouraged to dress the part in 1920's attire or elegant black tie and gowns. The show begins at 7 pm and will be followed by a dessert reception with the cast and artistic team. Tickets for the Gala Opening Night Celebration of Singin' in the Rain are $100 per person. Tickets for all other shows are $35 per person. The show will continue through March 15 with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 2 pm. All shows take place at the Little Theatre, 888 Morro Street in San Luis Obispo. Tickets available at slolittletheatre.org or call (805) 786-2440.
