REAL LOVE Comes to The Fountain Theatre Tonight

By:

Love is complicated -- especially when a man has three girlfriends who aren't even real. Fantasy and reality come to a head in Real Love written and directed by Mara De La Rosa, a guest production at The Fountain Theatre. Real Love performs for a limited run tonight and tomorrow, August 27 and 28. Tickets are currently available at bit.ly/RealLovePlay.

Sean Wilcox is a man in love and his three girlfriends are head-over-heels in love too. But Sean lives in a fantasy, because to everyone else his girlfriends aren't real. They're sex dolls. Sean's older brother, Cody is fed up. Tired of Sean's delusions of romance, he sets out to bring Sean back to reality and along the way discovers that sometimes you find love where you'd least expect it.

Full of camp and family drama, this play isn't just about a taboo of sexual fantasy. "The dolls are just major factors in the play but really, the main theme is about love," says Mara De la Rosa. "Who are we to judge who and what we can or cannot love?"

Mara De La Rosa is a writer, director and actress based in Los Angeles. Mara is known for her avant-garde work, and doesn't mind pushing the boundaries when making a statement. Recent projects include producing, writing and directing The Bed at Pollution Studios in works with Trade City Organization. She has also written, produced and directed The Photographer at Bootleg Theater.

Producer Nicholas Pilapil was drawn to the unique story presented by De La Rosa. "She's a fearless writer and director," says Pilapil. "I enjoy how she's not afraid to go 'there' with her subject matter and language. She also has a great way of blending those moments of humor and honesty."

On top of producing Real Love, Pilapil is a producing member of Artists at Play -- a Los Angeles theatre collective dedicated to producing works that tell the stories of communities underrepresented in Los Angeles theatre. Real Love is also produced by James Bennett who is the associate producer at The Fountain Theatre.

The cast of Real Love includes Jesse Abbott Chin, Faith D'Amato, Kaitlyn Fajilan, Anthony Marquez, Whitney Montgomery, Nasi Nassiri, Izzy Pollak and Joey Vahedi.

The production team also includes Vienna Luu, choreographer; Sanaz Toossi, dramaturg; and Cindy Yoon, stage manager.

Performances begin Thursday and Friday evening at 8 p.m. Individual tickets are $15. Tickets are available online at bit.ly/RealLovePlay or by phone (323) 663-1525. The Fountain Theatre is located at: 5060 Fountain Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90029.
