Phantom Projects Theatre Group Finalizes Casting for THE OUTSIDERS

By:

Phantom Projects Theatre Group will bring S.E.Hinton's classic novel to life, one-day-only, on February 19th at 10AM, 1PM, and 7PM. The daytime performances are sold out, with limited seating still available for the 7pm performance.

The novel, which debuted in 1967, is a coming-of-age story that was controversial at the time of its publication and is still a frequently challenged book. It was ranked #38 on the American Library Association's Top 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books of 1990-1999. However, in many middle and high schools schools today, the book is standard curriculum. A film version was produced in 1983, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, and starred Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Diane Lane, Matt Dillon, Emilio Estevez, and Ralph Macchio, most in their pre-fame days.

The production, under the direction of Phantom Projects' co-founder and ProducingArtistic Director Steve Cisneros, is a faithful adaptation of the book and features nearly 40 members of the cast and creative team.

Audiences can keep up with the development of the show through a special Outsiders on Stage Tumblr, which can be accessed at: TheOutsidersOnStage.Tumblr.com. The site features exclusive videos, photos, interviews and more.

The cast features: Joey Busch as Ponyboy, Duncan J. Anderson as Johnny Cade, Kevin M. Dennis as Darry, Trent Brown as Sodapop, Jesse Pimentel as Dally, Quinn Nagle as Two-Bit, Brooke Johnson as Cherry Valance, Victoria Rice as Marcia, Emily Githens as Sandy, Timothy Collins as Bob, AJ Jones as Randy, Sean Gilliland as Paul, Ryan Lacey as Jerry, Sonja Inge as Doctor and Dominique Johnson as Mrs. O'Briant.

The ensemble consists of: Jennifer Delgado, Johny Espindola, Angelina Folino, Marisa Frankie, Fernando Perez, Ryan Somohano, Jocelyn Argueta, Kyle Bassett, Fernando Becerra, Kat Kahn, Clare Lahey, Bug Meister, Roman Sanchez, Anathea Woirhaye.

The creative team: Steve Cisneros, Director. Julie Ouellette, Fight Choreographer, Kevin M. Dennis, Assistant Fight Choreographer, Hanna Mitchell, Costume Designer.

Tickets are $25 (Student discounts available) and can be obtained by calling the La Mirada Theatre box office at 562 944 9801 or visiting www.PhantomProjects.com.

La Mirada Theatre is located at 14900 La Mirada Blvd, La Mirada, CA 90638. Ample free parking is available.

The Outsiders is the 2nd show in the troupe's 2014/15 Season. The 3rd show, Through These Eyes on May 14, 2015, is an original show written by co-founder Bruce Gevirtzman and deals with the pressures young people face every day: the view they see of themselves when they look in the mirror, and the pressures to live up to "society's standards." Eating disorders, cutting, and suicide are all addressed in this powerful performance that features a post-show discussion about the subject.

Phantom Projects Theatre Group was created in 1997 by Steve Cisneros and Bruce Gevirtzman. Cisneros was just 17 years old at the time of the company's founding, and has overseen the daily operations of the troupe since its inception.

Most recently, the troupe was awarded with two Broadway World Los Angeles Theatre award for their production of THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK, from the 2013/2014 Season at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.
