The multi-award winning NINE O'CLOCK PLAYERS have announced the second show of their 2013-2014 season and 85th year of bringing extraordinary family theatre to Southern California with a world premiere musical adaptation of THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES, book, music and lyrics by Carol Weiss, musical direction by Gerald Sternbach and directed by Todd Nielsen. THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES will preview on Sunday, February 23 and will open on Sunday, March 2 at 2pm and run through Sunday, March 23 at the Assistance League Theatre, 1367 N. St. Andrews Place in Hollywood.
The entire family will adore this world premiere musical adaptation of the timeless Hans Christian Andersen tale! The Emperor cares about nothing in the kingdom but his wardrobe! Even as his many closets are overflowing, he insists he wants a brand new suit of clothing for his birthday. He announces to the land that any tailor who can make him the "ultimate" suit will be richly rewarded. Two swindlers beguile the Emperor with elaborate descriptions of the suit they will create, adding one important warning - the suit can only be seen by those who are trustworthy and wise. Dishonest or foolish people will see nothing at all!The Emperor thinks this will help him find out who among his court are loyal, so he gives them a fortune in gold cloth, thread, ornaments and jewels to weave this most magical and wondrous suit. But having second thoughts, he sends his trusted Prime Minister to spy on the tailors. The minister sees no suit, but lies to the Emperor and to all his friends, telling them how beautiful the suit is, and adding the special warning that in order to see it the person must be honest and wise. Soon the whole town knows about the suit and they all declare that they will be able to see it.
THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES will preview on Sunday, February 23 at 2pm and will open on Sunday, March 2 at 2pm and run through Sunday, March 23 at the Assistance League Theatre, 1367 N. St. Andrews Place in Hollywood.
