Musical Theatre Guild Presents HIGH SPIRITS One Night Only 2/22
By: Gabrielle Sierra
The award-winning Musical Theatre Guild, a company of professional performers who present concert-staged readings of seldom seen musicals, will continue its 14th season with the rarely produced 1964 musical HIGH SPIRITS. The one night only event will take place on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 7:30 PM at the historic Alex Theatre in Glendale.
Noel Coward's witty comedy BLITHE SPIRIT (recently revived on Broadway) is reinvented as a sassy, sly and successful 60's musical. In this sparkling, tuneful version, the mischievous spirit of Elvira, the first Mrs. Condomine, bedevils writer Charles Condomine and his new wife Ruth. Eccentric medium Madame Arcati conjures up the naughty ghost and endeavors to send her back to the other world. The original Broadway production ran for 375 performances and was nominated for eight Tony Awards. In leading roles are Teri Bibb (Ruth), Michelle Duffy (Elvira), Damon Kirsche (Charles) Carol Kline (Madame Arcati), Lowe Taylor (Edith), Marsha Kramer (Mrs. Bradman) and William Martinez (Dr. Bradman). Also featured are Kim Huber, Tracy Lore, Brandon Michael Perkins and Jeffrey Polk. HIGH SPIRITS will be directed by Richard Israel with musical direction by Mary Ekler. The Alex Theatre is located at 216 North Brand Blvd in Glendale.
