The Elephant Theatre Company was created in 1995 in downtown Los Angeles . Artistic Director David Fofi along with other graduates from the Cal State Long Beach Theatre Arts program moved into a space at the Angel City Brewery artist complex. The space doubled as a Studio Theatre and loft apartment for the original founders. Focused on their desire to continue their craft following graduation, they renovated the space and pulled together some of the most talented writers, actors, directors and creative minds they had worked with over the years to create Elephant Off Main. Their goal was to produce a new brand of original theatre in Los Angeles . In the summer of 1997, the small 45- seat theater could no longer accommodate the advancing production needs or the increasing audience attendance. The Company then moved to Hollywood (and dropped the "Off Main"). David Fofi and founding member Don Cesario continued to produce the Elephant in various Hollywood venues before landing at the company's present home on Santa Monica and North Lillian Way. They created the producing entity Elephant Stageworks which runs three theaters at this location; The Elephant, The Lillian and The Elephant Lab. The Elephant Theatre Company has grown to 70 members and has presented many critically acclaimed world premieres and LA premieres including one of Travis Holders Best of 2008, ASLEEP ON A BICYCLE by Tony Foster, ANYTHING by Timothy McNeil, IN ARABIA WE'D ALL BE KINGS by Stephen Adly Guirgis, LOS MUERTOS by Timothy McNeil, 7 REDNECK CHEERLEADERS by Louis Jacobs and ONE FELL SWOOP by Robert Litz. Other Elephant productions include ONE WORLD, DEARBOYS WAR, TEN TRICKS, KING OF CLUBS, THE PUPPET AND THE MUPPET MAIDEN, HOLDING CELL, PRINCESS AND THE PEON and published works that include Search and Destroy, Serenading Louie and Sam Shepards 4-H Club & Red Cross. Now in their 13th season, the Elephant Theatre Company continues their reputation for cutting edge, prolific theater with LOVE BITES - VOLUME 8.
