The Laguna Playhouse has announced their upcoming shows from November 2009 through April 2010.  The Laguna Playhouse, founded in 1920 by a group of dedicated local drama devotees got together and decided it was time to establish a community theatre in Laguna Beach. Initially there were play readings and performances in private homes and storefronts. The company's first full production on record was Suppressed Desires, a satire on Freudian psychology by Susan Glaspel, a member-with Eugene O'Neill-of the famed Provincetown Playhouse in New York and Massachusetts.  They have since evolved into a leading Southern California theater company with their own home.  Upcoming productions for the winter season include:

STUART LITTLE: A MUSICAL FANTASY

This musical version of E.B. White's classic tells the tale about a little mouse, Stuart, born into the Fredrick C Little family living in New York. He is just 2" tall but has the stature of a giant and accordingly goes on some big adventures. The charming story is of a determined underdog trying to survive in a real people's world. From melodic ballads to exciting chorus numbers, it features such delightful songs as "Paddle Your Own Canoe," "Feed Him Up," "Size," "Stuart Little," "I'm Headed in the Right Direction" and "Nighttime in New York" (sung by a quartet of cats).

WINTER WONDERETTES

Set six months after the end of The Marvelous Wonderettes, this seasonal sequel finds the girls returning to their hometown for a Holiday celebration with their family and friends, complete with great Wonderette renditions of ‘60s holiday tunes. Wonderette member Betty Jean is in charge of her company's Christmas party, so naturally the Wonderettes are the logical choice for the entertainment. But when Santa turns up missing, the girls must use their talent and creative ingenuity, plus some great holiday tunes such as "Santa Baby," "Jingle Bell Rock" and "It's a Marshmallow World" to rectify their holiday party without the jolly big guy in red. The result is, of course, marvelous! This energetic and entertaining show is guaranteed to delight audiences of all ages. The LA Weekly calls The Winter Wonderettes "the perfect Christmas revue...the musical numbers crackle with energy and joy," while the LA Times raves "everything about this production is first-rate...if you're looking for festive entertainment this holiday season, turn yourself over to the wonderful Wonderettes."
