L.A. Theatre Works Airs John Steinbeck's THE GRAPES OF WRATH 11/28

This weekend, beginning Saturday, November 28, L.A. Theatre Works will air John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath. The broadcast can be heard locally in Southern California on Saturday from 10 pm to midnight on KPCC 89.3 FM, and can also be streamed on demand at http://www.latw.org/>http://www.latw.org/.

The 19-member cast is led by Shirley Knight, Jeffrey Donovan, and Francis Guinan, with original music performed by The Joel Rafael Band. Driven by the rhythms of country fiddles and campground guitars, this Tony Award-winning adaptation by Frank Galati tells the compelling story of the Joad family's trek from the Oklahoma dust bowl to the fields of California during the Great Depression.

Included with the broadcast is an excerpt from the radio documentary "Voices from the Dustbowl," a collection of archive recordings made in California's labor migrant camps in the summer of 1940 that is part of the Peabody award-winning public radio series "Lost and Found Sound." The documentary is narrated by Charles Todd who made the recordings nearly 70 years ago for the Library of Congress.
