LA Phil Announces HD Webcast Of BIENVENIDO GUSTAVO! 10/3

By:

The LA Phil announces a live HD webcast of ¡Bienvenido Gustavo!, a Target® Free Community Concert, at the Hollywood Bowl on October 3, 2009 beginning at 4 PM. This event marks the very first time a performance has been webcast from the iconic venue. The webcast will be available to watch on the LA Phil website http://www.laphil.com and all individual performances from the concert can be viewed on demand for 24 hours beginning at 10 AM PDT on Sunday, October 4.
"We are thrilled to invite music lovers, not just in Los Angeles but worldwide, to enjoy this landmark event welcoming Gustavo Dudamel" commented Deborah Borda, President of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association. "Gustavo, his joy of music and the diversity of talents within the Los Angeles community are gifts to share with as many people as possible."

¡Bienvenido Gustavo! marks Dudamel's inaugural performance as Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and draws on the many cultures and musical traditions of Los Angeles. The event celebrates the arrival of Gustavo Dudamel in his new home, the vibrant city of Los Angeles, as well as his life journey from Venezuela to Music Director of the LA Phil - a journey that reflects the potential for many of Los Angeles' own youth.

Renowned film composer John Williams chaired an all-star Artistic Advisory Panel assembled especially for this event. Panel members include Quincy Jones, Sergio Mendes and Ben Harper. The panel sought out L.A.'s professional and amateur musical groups from diverse genres to perform during the ¡Bienvenido Gustavo! event.

The first half of the ¡Bienvenido Gustavo! program showcases artists from varied genres and generations, featuring young local ensembles, rising stars and established names who have served as role models for the next generation of musicians in their communities. These performances are followed by the YOLA Expo Center Youth Orchestra, led by Dudamel in his first public appearance with the ensemble, performing an arrangement of Beethoven's "Ode to Joy." ¡Bienvenido Gustavo! culminates in the LA Phil's performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, conducted by Dudamel, featuring a stellar solo quartet and a congregation of choruses from across Los Angeles, both professional and amateur, representing the great diversity of the city. The concert will close with a firework spectacular.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association, under the vibrant leadership of Gustavo Dudamel, presents the finest in orchestral and chamber music, recitals, new music, jazz, world music and holiday concerts at two of the most remarkable locations anywhere to experience music - Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Hollywood Bowl. In addition to a 30-week winter subscription season at Walt Disney Concert Hall, the LA Phil presents a 12-week summer festival at the legendary Hollywood Bowl, summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and home of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. In fulfilling its commitment to the community, the Association's involvement with Los Angeles extends to educational concerts, children's programming and community concerts, ever seeking to provide inspiration and delight to the broadest possible audience.
