Sterling's Upstairs at Vitello's in Studio City, CA is pleased to announce that it will kick off its Autumn season with a rare and very special headlining engagement by Film, Television and Broadway singer/dancer/actress KATHERINE HOPKINS NICHOLAS - Sunday, September 20, 2009.

Katherine Hopkins Nicholas was born and raised in Los Angeles, and inherited the right genes to prepare her for a career as an actress. Her father was actor-comedian-impressionist, Bob Hopkins, and her mother was actress-singer-pianist Mavis Russell. Ms. Russell and Mr. Hopkins met in 1948 while performing in the famous Ken Murray's Blackouts.

Katherine's first professional appearance on stage was as a dancer in a local nightclub production at the tender age of twelve. Three years later, she appeared in the Burbank Civic Light Opera Productions of Brigadoon, Anything Goes and Girl Crazy. At seventeen, she appeared as a performer and comedienne in an NBC Television Network special starring English-born and raised, American television star and pop recording artist Noel Harrison, son of Oscar-winner and Tony Award-winning actor Sir Rex Harrison. Two years later, Katherine began a long and successful association as "straight woman" to the world famous Wiere Brothers, the zany stars of film, television, nightclubs and the concert stage.

While performing with the Wiere Brothers, she was called upon to do several commercials, as well as many acting roles on television and in feature films. Among her television credits were roles on Charlie's Angels, Police Woman, Starsky and Hutch, The Bionic Woman, Barnaby Jones and Police Story plus appearances on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and on the syndicated Merv Griffin Show.

Her feature films included On the Brink with George C. Scott, The Capture of Big Foot and Shame Shame on the Bixby Boys. For almost four years, she toured the country with Mickey Rooney and Ann Miller in the record-breaking theatrical Broadway hit Sugar Babies.

Other favorite shows included a co-starring role in the Las Vegas Production of 42nd Street at the Sahara Hotel and in The La Mirada Production of Jake's Women. However, in her own words, her "most fulfilling role was that as wife of the late Fayard Nicholas," an American choreographer, dancer and actor. He, along with his brother Harold, made up The Nicholas Brothers tap-dance duo who starred in the numerous MGM musicals With their highly acrobatic technique ("flash dancing"), high level of artistry and daring innovations, they were considered by many the greatest tap dancers of their day. Growing up surrounded by Vaudeville acts as children, they became stars of the jazz circuit during the heyday of the Harlem Renaissance and went on to have successful careers performing on stage, film, and television well into the 1990's.
