Impro Theatre Presents L.A. NOIR UNSCRIPTED

By:

The award-winning Impro Theatre continues its 10th Anniversary Season with a one-time-only production of L.A. Noir UnScripted at the Ford Theatres. The completely improvised performance will take place in the newly renovated 1200-seat amphitheatre in the Hollywood Hills, on October 14 at 8:30pm.

Unlike any other theatrical experience, L.A. Noir UnScripted brings to life the dark and seedy underbelly of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 50s. Directed by Brian Lohmann and inspired by audience suggestions, the ensemble embodies private dicks, femme fatales and a cadre of colorful characters in an improvised tale of seduction and murder. L.A. Noir UnScripted also includes a live jazz quartet directed by Peter Smith that will improvise an accompanying score along with music for improvised songs. This once-in-a-lifetime spontaneous show will be witnessed only by those who are at the Ford on this night.

Impro Theatre's 10th Anniversary Season has already included extended runs of Fairytales UnScripted at the Lewis Family Playhouse, Twilight Zone UnScripted: Abridged at the Impro Studio, Tennessee Williams UnScripted at the Falcon Theatre, and headlining events in Florida and Texas. The season continues with Pledge Drive UnScripted, a fundraising event consisting of 30 hours of continuous improvised performances over September 23 and 24, and 1966 Holiday Variety Extravaganza at the Broad Stage on December 15, 16 and 17.

Impro Theatre has garnered national attention with their unique acclaimed brand of theatre and sold-out shows. They create completely improvised, full-length plays in various styles; every show is completely different, and each performance is seen only by the people in that theater on that night. Locally, they have performed at South Coast Repertory, The Broad Stage in Santa Monica, North Coast Repertory in Solana Beach, The Falcon Theatre in Burbank, The Carrie Hamilton Theatre at the Pasadena Playhouse, and many more. Around the country, they have performed at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Athenaeum Theatre in Chicago, Texas State University, Sarasota Improv Festival, and dozens more.

Writing about Impro Theatre, American Theatre magazine said, "These virtuosic talents simply are as superhuman as they seem. These serious professional actors, classically trained, can write on their feet better than many writers can type at a desk. Impro's work has taught me to demand more from the theatre." Los Angeles Times calls Impro Theatre, "Amazing! One of the funniest evenings in town. The troupe spins an entire play into comedy gold right before your eyes." Impro's shows have been consistently honored with "Ovation Recommended" and "Critic's Picks" with sold-out shows all over the world, and they were recently named by LAist as one of the 12 Best Theatre Companies in Los Angeles.
