CABARET Opens at Repertory East Playhouse, 5/13
One of the most recognized and celebrated musicals of all time will make its mark on the Repertory East Playhouse on May 13. The production, sponsored by Josh Rivas and Profiles Salon, and directed by Mark Kaplan explores the chaotic time period leading up to Nazi rule of Germany and an intimate form of theatre, called Cabaret.
It is the city of Berlin in 1930, a time when political unrest racks the country, the economy has been destroyed, and millions of unemployed roam the streets. Enter into this chaos a British cabaret performer, working at the downtown "Kit-Kat club" where anything goes on the stage. Into her life come several characters; a rich German politician, a young American man struggling with his identity, and of course the all-knowing, all-seeing Emcees, who welcomes the audience to the show and assures them that, whatever their troubles, they will forget them at the Cabaret.
"This is a wonderfully inventive piece of theatre our director, Mark Kaplan, has created," said the REP's Co-Artistic Director Ovington Michael Owston. "It will be unlike any theatre experience our audiences have seen. We have captured the true meaning of Cabaret! "
Cabaret will run May 13 through June 18. Show times are Friday and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm. Tickets are $21 for Adults and $18 for students and seniors. Group rates are available. Advanced reservations are highly recommended. For tickets, purchase online at www.repeastplayhouse.org or call 661-288-0000.
