Almond & Sweet's GIRLFRIEND to Play CTG's Kirk Douglas Theatre This Summer

By:

"Girlfriend", featuring book by Todd Almond and music & lyrics by Matthew Sweet, will be directed by Les Waters at Center Theatre Group's Kirk Douglas Theatre, running July 12 through August 9, 2015.

Set in Nebraska in the 1990s, two teenage boys - one a social outcast, the other the quintessential jock - explore a relationship during a summer of self-discovery between high school graduation and the rest of their lives. Set to irresistible songs from Matthew Sweet's landmark pop album of the same name, this rock musical gives voice to those who grew up in small towns, to those who didn't quite fit in and to everyone who remembers the terror and thrill of first love.

Previews Begin July 12. Runs through August 9, 2015. Schedule: Sunday through Wednesday at 8 p.m.; Thursday at 8:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. No preview performance on Monday. Opens Sunday, July 19 at 6:30 p.m. Regular Performances (July 20 through August 9): Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday at 8 p.m.; Thursday at 8:30 p.m.; Saturday at 2 and 8 p.m.; Sunday at 1 and 6:30 p.m. No Monday performances.
