What do you get when combining Blake Edward’s The Party and Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror? A damning yet playful satire of a not-so-far future in-which transhumanism has become doctrine. During a festive evening, a privileged few of the techno-elite are given a sneak peak of the latest technological innovation; a chance to shed their mortal flesh and enter the virtual continuum. Who will take the plunge? What are the moral and social consequences of their action?

The Summit is an experimental performance piece written, directed, and designed by the interdisciplinary trio of Isla Hansen, Tucker Marder, and Christian Scheider. Staged at East Hampton’s Guild Hall Center for the Visual and Performing Arts this Labor Weekend (August 31st through September 9th), The Summit promises to be the end of season Hamptons event, not to miss. Incorporating elements of puppetry, physical comedy, film, design, and a clever use of the classic proscenium stage setting, the work will transport audience members into the projected future of the 1960s space-age. And yet, many potent recognizable, and relevant, themes will anchor the performance piece in the present. The audience will leave laughing but also asking themselves serious questions about technological progress and their role in mitigating its existential impact on society.
