Photo Flash: Patti LuPone Brings 'DON'T MONKEY WITH BROADWAY' to the Engeman Theater

On Monday, January 23rd and Tuesday, January 24th, 2017, The John W. Engeman Theater hosted two-time Tony and Grammy Award winner Patti LuPone for two sold-out performances benefiting the Northport High School Performing Arts Department. Scroll down for photos of the legendary performer in action!

In her show Don't Monkey with Broadway, Ms. LuPone performed classic show tunes, accompanied by her musical director Joseph Thalken, while sharing stories from throughout her Broadway career and memories from her time as a Northport High School student. During the second half of each concert, she was joined by members of the Tour Choir from her former high school.

Following the performance, Ms. LuPone said, "It was surreal and then completely joyful to stand on the stage of what I remember as a movie theater. But my biggest thrill was singing with the kids from the Northport High School Choir, my Alma Mater."

The Northport High School students sang back up on "Ya Got Trouble" from The Music Man, "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat" from Guys and Dolls, "Blow, Gabriel, Blow" from Anything Goes and "Sleepy Man" from The Robber Bridegroom.

A portion of the proceeds from both concerts will be donated to the Northport High School Performing Arts Department. On Tuesday, Dr. Izzet Mergen, Director of Fine and Performing Arts for Northport High School, announced that these funds will be used to purchase instruments and allow students with limited financial means to participate in extracurricular music and arts programming.

"It was a privilege to welcome home Northport's Patti LuPone for two fantastic sold-out concerts," said theater co-owner Kevin J. O'Neill. "As a result of her generosity and the support of her many followers, we were able to raise a total of $35,000, which includes an $8,000 donation from the educational foundation, FRIENNDS of Northport." The funds raised will be presented to the Northport High School Performing Arts Department at an upcoming event.
