GYPSY Plays CM Performing Arts Center, Now thru 2/9
Let CM Performing Arts Center "entertain you" with the musical GYPSY!
Gypsy, the 1959 musical with music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, and a book by Arthur Laurents, is loosely based on the 1957 memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, the famous striptease artist, and focuses on her mother, Momma Rose, whose name has become synonymous with "the ultimate show business mother." Gypsy follows the dreams and efforts of a headstrong, domineering and determined Rose to raise two daughters to perform onstage and see their name in lights on Broadway. Gypsy casts an affectionate eye on the hardships of the 1920's show business life and the dying days of vaudeville.
This musical that enchants and enlightens you with Rose's journey, contains many songs that became popular standards, including "Small World," Everything's Coming up Roses, "You'll Never Get Away from Me" and "Let Me Entertain You." Gypsy has earned its place as one of the great American musicals.
