NORTH LITTLE ROCK HIGH SCHOOL TO WORK WITH PROFESSIONAL COMPANIES FOR SPRING PERFORMANCE OF “THE LITTLE MERMAID”
While North Little Rock High School never fails to put on amazing musicals, this year will definitely be a year you will want to plan to attend a performance. The North Little Rock High School Theatre Arts Department is thrilled to announce the opportunity to work with both the Arkansas Repertory Theatre (costumes) and ZFX, Inc., a leading service provider for complete flying effects (in-air special effects). These partnerships will allow costume/makeup and stagecraft technical students the unique opportunity to work with a professional costume designer and a ZFX Flying specialist to learn how to lift actors up and down for special effects during “The Little Mermaid.” NLRHS is anxious to use both The Rep’s beautiful costumes and ZFX to fly people for the “The Little Mermaid” performances. It is guaranteed to be an unprecedented theatre experience for those of all ages.
These opportunities have been made available to the students of North Little Rock High School through our presenting sponsor, Chick Fil A on McCain Blvd (Lowe’s parking lot) and other sponsors: The Wildcat Foundation, actors Mary Steenburgen and Ted Danson, Kyle Pitts with Ifrah Financial, and Dean Dental.
The Arkansas Repertory Theatre is the state’s largest non-profit resident theatre company. The Rep has produced more than 350 productions including 45 world premieres in its theatre located in its historic building in downtown Little Rock. The Rep brings Tony Award-winners and other nationally recognized artists to its stages, and is locally recognized as the Best Live Theatre and the Best Performing Arts Organization by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and Arkansas Times.
ZFX began as an idea in a garage over 20 years ago and is now the largest flying company in the world. North Little Rock High School has partnered with ZFX in the 2007 production of “Peter Pan” and the 2010 production of “Beauty and the Beast.” The public will be at the North Little Rock High School Performing Arts Center.
The cast and crew of over 150 students are all responsible for the success of “The Little Mermaid.” The technical theater students help design and build the sets, run the lights/sound, as well as manage all technical aspects of the production. The student directors/choreographers assist the production staff in all rehearsals/performances. The costume/makeup students help design and create the costume and makeup effects. Please support the arts in education by coming to see the NLRHS Theatre Arts Department’s rendition of the musical, “The Little Mermaid.”
