STEEL MAGNOLIAS Sells Out All Remaining Performances at Arkansas Repertory Theatre
The production, set inside Truvy's beauty shop, explores friendship and resilience among a group of Southern women.
Arkansas Repertory Theatre has released a new video offering audiences a glimpse inside its current production of STEEL MAGNOLIAS, which has proven so popular that every remaining performance on the run has sold out.
Robert Harling's beloved play unfolds entirely within a Louisiana beauty salon, where a group of Southern women navigate friendship, grief, and joy with equal measures of wit and warmth. The piece has endured for decades as a touchstone of American regional theatre, celebrated for its sharp one-liners and its unflinching emotional honesty — captured perhaps most memorably in the line, "Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion."
This production, directed by Christine O'Grady, serves as the opening entry in The Rep's 2026 Golden SummerStage season, which marks the Little Rock company's 50th anniversary year under the leadership of Steve H. Broadnax III and Will Trice. BroadwayWorld's critic praised the production for its Southern charm and the strength of its ensemble work.
The sold-out run underscores the appetite for the classic across the country this season. The Rep's next SummerStage production, AIN'T MISBEHAVIN', is set to follow, continuing what has shaped up to be a landmark celebratory season for the Arkansas institution.
