Arkansas Native Wins Best Theatrical Performance at NYC SITA Awards
The Success in the Arts awards (SITA) were held Saturday September 30, 2017 at the Walton Hotel in New York City. The awards honored the rising stars in the arts.
Arkansas-native Shaneisha Dodson took home the award for best theatrical presentation for her play Vagina Rights. The winning play opened off-Broadway at the Theatre St. Clement July 2017.
Dodson holds a BA in psychology, MA in counseling, and an Ed.S in education. She has received numerous accolades to include: 2017 Best theatrical performance, Featured playwright for 50in50 writing women into existence, ACHI magazine 2016 Screenwriter of the year, 2016 Black Women Are Inspiration award winner, 2015 Best Playwright, 2015 Extraordinary Person Honoree, and a 2011 literary excellence award. Dodson has written and produced three full length productions, and one short play. Currently, she is working on her next theatrical production titled Sweet Daddy. It's a play set in Arkansas and loosely based off stories passed down from her great uncles. In her spare time, she enjoys writing and spending time with loved ones.
