The Onyx to Present DEBBIE DOES DALLAS: THE MUSICAL
The Onyx makes a hot summer even hotter with the hilarious spoof of a 1978 adult film classic in Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical, adapted by Erica Schmidt, with music by Andrew Sherman, and direction by Troy Heard.
Head Cheerleader Debbie Benton's life gets turned around when she's invited to join the world famous Texas Cowgirl cheer squad...but she has only two weeks to raise the money to get to Dallas. With the help of her friends, they form a new company - Teen Services - where they set out to give the neighborhood men a helping hand. But will jealous boyfriend Rick, the captain of the football squad, stand in her way? And what of Tammy, who dreams of one day joining the Senate...won't this stain her permanent record? High (school) drama ensues...
"This show is fantastically naughty, and totally funny, but never obscene," says director Heard. "Of course, that depends on your definition of obscene." But a classic porn movie on stage? "There's nothing in this show that you'd feel guilty about your grandma seeing. The cleverness of Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical is how the writers replaced the hardcore sex scenes with musical comedy numbers. It's more like a bawdy burlesque show than anything on late night Cinemax. Plus it's an artistic version of the pursuit of the American Dream."
Although the xx rating has been scrapped, due to general naughtiness, Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical is still suggested for mature audiences.
Performances of Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical will be July 7 through 23, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm., with 5:00 p.m. performances on Sundays. Tickets are $23 for General Admission.
