REEFER MADNESS THE MUSICAL! Auditions Held At Atlas Theater 5/24

Atlas Theatre Ensemble announces auditions for the Las Vegas Premiere of "REEFER MADNESS: THE MUSICAL!"

The story explores the ideas of Truth, Conscience, and the American Way! Inspired by the original 1936 film of the same name, this raucous musical comedy takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the hysteria caused when clean-cut kids fall prey to marijuana, leading them on a hysterical downward spiral filled with "evil jazz music", "sex and violence". The addictive and clever musical numbers range from big Broadway-style showstoppers to swing tunes like "Down at the Ol' Five and Dime" and the Vegas-style "Listen to Jesus, Jimmy," featuring J.C. Himself leading a chorus of showgirl angels. This dynamic show will go straight to your head, and you won't be able to resist the spoofy fun of REEFER MADNESS: THE MUSICAL! The show is a highly stylized and satirical political commentary; containing adult humor, religious parody, and drug use, as well as suggested violence and sexual explicitness. It therefore may be inappropriate for younger performers.

Auditions are Sunday, May 24th, from 5-8pm, at the Kravenko Dance Academy (2555 S. Jones Blvd, just south of Sahara Ave.- 89146). Please bring a photo and performance resume, and be prepared to perform a short monologue (memorized, approximately one minute in length, any style/genre), and to sing a short piece of music (your best 16 bars or so, in the style of the show- think "Little Shop of Horrors" or "Jesus Christ Superstar"). You may sing with a recorded track (a CD player will be provided), or acapella (no accompaniment will provided).

"REEFER MADNESS: THE MUSICAL" will perform the last two weekends of September and the first weekend of October (Thursday-Saturday, with some Saturday matinees), in the Backstage Theatre, on the campus of the College of Southern Nevada (Cheyenne campus). Callbacks are TBD, and will occur shortly after the general auditions. All roles are open!
