Signature Productions and Super Summer Theatre present ONCE ON THIS ISLAND at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park through August 29.

This highly original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale "The Little Mermaid" sings and dances the story of Ti Moune, the black peasant girl who rescues, nurses and falls in love with Daniel, a mulatto from a wealthy family.

When Daniel is returned to his people, the gods who rule the island, guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death.

Its catchy, contemporary, and Caribbean-flavored score by the Tony® Award-winning songwriting team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty ("Ragtime" and the animated film "Anastasia") includes tender ballads and rousing celebratory showstoppers.

This is Super Summer Theatre's third show this season, after THE Buddy Holly STORY and WEST SIDE STORY, and the season will wrap up with WORKING, which opens September 11.

Super Summer Theatre opened its curtains for the first time in 1976, just two years after the Spring Mountain Ranch became a state park. It remains to this day a division of the Nevada State Parks and is under the directorship of Park Ranger Rick Keller. In the early years the Las Vegas Junior League and the Nevada Natural History Association helped greatly in getting Super Summer Theatre up and going.

The weather in Las Vegas can be very different from that at the Super Summer Theatre. We do not cancel shows until there is an eminent threat of rain at the Ranch. Should we call off a show, our Hotline (594-PLAY) will have further instructions. If we do cancel during a show, "your dated ticket stub" will be honored at a later show. If you have any further questions call: 594-PLAY.
