The Performing Arts Center at UNLV, Southern Nevada's premier performing arts venue, recently announced its 2007-2008 season and in addition to the longstanding Charles Vanda Master Series, New York Stage & Beyond Series, and UNLV Classical Guitar Series, the Performing Arts Center also will offer two outstanding performances to celebrate UNLV's 50th Anniversary.

"The season opens on September 14 with the New York Stage & Beyond Series performance by Brian Stokes Mitchell. Dubbed the last 'leading man' by The New York Times, Mitchell's spectacular career spans Tony Award-winning Broadway performances, television, and film," state press notes.

Additional performances on this season's New York Stage & Beyond Series are the Paul Taylor Dance Company on October 13; The Broadway Divas singing brand new arrangements of Broadway tunes by Tony Award-winner Jason Robert Brown and Andrew Lippa, October 20; Tango Buenos Aires November 8; The Monterey Jazz Festival 50th Anniversary Tour January 20; Tony Award-winner Christine Ebersole February 2; and "An Evening of Words and Music" with Anthony Rapp February 23.

October 26 opens the Charles Vanda Master Series with mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves. Direct from the great opera houses of the world to Las Vegas, Graves is an "operatic superstar" in the 21st Century (USA Today).

Other performances on the Vanda Series include Grammy Award-winning pianist Yefim Bronfman November 27; Itzhak Perlman, the undeniable reigning virtuoso of the violin, January 23; the St. Petersburg State Ballet Theatre performance of Giselle February 14; The Band of the Coldstream Guards and The Pipes, Drums, and Dancers of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards March 1; The State Symphony Orchestra of Mexico March 12; and the Zukerman ChamberPlayers May 2.

The UNLV Classical Guitar Series, sponsored in part by the Allegro Guitar Society of Las Vegas, features Xuefei Yang, the first guitarist in China to graduate from music school October 11; Jason Vieaux, the youngest first-prize winner in the history of the Guitar Foundation of America International Competition, November 9; Quaternaglia, formed by Brazilians Fernando Lima, Joao Luiz, Fabio Ramazzina, and Sidney Molina, February 12; and inspirational performer Roland Dyens April 25.

In celebration of the UNLV 50th Anniversary, the PAC will host a very special second concert featuring charismatic maestro Itzhak Perlman as he conducts the UNLV Symphony Orchestra and UNLV alumni, faculty, and emeritus faculty with his Rachel Lee on Violin January 26.

Also in celebration of the anniversary, Hal Holbrook performs in his critically acclaimed show "Mark Twain Tonight" May 3.
