Starlight Theatre Announces A BRONX TALE, HELLO, DOLLY!, and More

Starlight Theatre is pleased to announce its 2019 AdventHealth Broadway Series lineup, featuring a variety of shows sure to please Kansas City audiences. With so many fantastic productions hitting the road, Starlight booked a season to encompass five week-long Broadway musicals in addition to two weekend specials-giving patrons the ability to add or swap and customize their season to be truly theirs.

Season ticket holders may renew their five-show season now and add one or both weekend specials at the time of renewal. New season ticket holders may also secure their tickets for the 2019 season now and will be seated after renewals are complete. Individual tickets will go on sale at a later date.

Six of the seven shows are national Broadway tours, including the 2017 Tony Award winner for Best Musical Revival, Hello, Dolly!, which just closed in New York after a year and a half of rave reviews from both patrons and critics alike. The new musical A Bronx Tale, directed by Robert DiNiro and Jerry Zaks, makes its Kansas City premiere at Starlight and includes songs from eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast). The revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber's CATS is sure to please with its award-winning score, and Beautiful - The Carole King Musical and Rock of Ages will have patrons dancing in the aisles with their juke-box favorite soundtracks. For families, Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy will astound with its innovative artistry, and Starlight's self-produced 2019 show, The Wizard of Oz, returns to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the iconic film.

Rock of Ages

May 31-June 2 (Weekend Special - Add-On or Swap)

Broadway's Best Party is turning up the volume to ten! Nominated for five Tony Awards, Rock of Ages captures the iconic era of 1980s Hollywood. Featuring the music of hit bands such as Styx, Poison, Twisted Sister, Whitesnake and more, this Tenth Anniversary production will have you ready to rock!

The Wizard of Oz

June 10-16

Celebrating the 80th anniversary of the iconic film, The Wizard of Oz is a heartwarming tale of Dorothy's quest to return home-and the unlikely friendships she makes along the way. Based upon the book by L. Frank Baum, this family favorite takes audiences from the plains of Kansas to the magical world of Oz-full of the spectacular sights and characters that we've grown to know and love.

Beautiful - The Carole King Musical

June 25-30

The Tony and Grammy Award-winning inspiring true story of Carole King's remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation.

CATS

July 9-14

Rediscover CATS-the record-breaking and beloved musical with breathtaking music by Andrew Lloyd Webber-including one of the most treasured songs in musical theater, "Memory." Featuring new sound design, direction and choreography for a new generation-experience CATS for the first time as it begins a new life, or let it thrill you all over again! CATS is the winner of seven Tony Awards including Best Musical.

A Bronx Tale

July 30-Aug. 4

Broadway's hit crowd-pleaser takes you to the stoops of the Bronx in the 1960s-where a young man is caught between the father he loves and the mob boss he'd love to be. Bursting with high-energy dance numbers and original doo-wop tunes, A Bronx Tale is an unforgettable story of loyalty and family directed by Academy Award winner Robert De Niro and Tony winner Jerry Zaks.

Cirque Dreams: Jungle Fantasy

Sept. 6-8 (Weekend Special - Add-On or Swap)

Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy is an exotic encounter inspired by nature's unpredictable creations that are brought to life by an international cast of soaring aerialists, spine-bending contortionists, acrobats, jugglers and musicians. The astounding feats performed in this action-packed show are enhanced with spectacular costumes that come to life in a fantastical jungle setting ignited by striking visual effects.

Hello, Dolly!

Sept. 24-29

Breaking box office records week after week and receiving thunderous raves on Broadway, this Hello, Dolly! won four 2017 Tony Awards and has been hailed both as one of the greatest stagings in musical theater history. Rolling Stone calls it "a must-see event. A musical comedy dream. If you're lucky enough to score a ticket, you'll be seeing something historic. Wow, wow, wow indeed!"

Starlight Theatre is the largest and oldest performing arts organization in Kansas City and the second-largest outdoor producing theatre in the country.
