VA Rep on Tour - Harriet Tubman/Have You Filled a Bucket Today 2024 - Virginia Repertory Theatre

LISTING INFORMATION

Virginia Repertory Theatre is seeking one professional African American performer to play two roles in the Spring 2024 Touring Season. The same performer will first tour with Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad in the title role of Harriet, and then tour with Have You Filled a Bucket Today? The Musical! in the role of Mimi.



The spring touring season runs from early January to early June with four to eight tours on the road. We travel extensively in our home state of Virginia and throughout most of the United States.

Virginia Rep on Tour is full-time employment during the course of the contract.

Pay: $480/wk.

Contract Dates for Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad/Have You Filled a Bucket Today? The Musical! (spring semester): 1/2/24-5/24/24

Transportation costs while on tour, including all hotels, are arranged and paid for by Virginia Rep. Many tours have consecutive weeks of travel while others are mostly comprised of day-trips. Company housing available in Richmond for non local artists.

Tour actors are expected to perform, serve as crew, and share the driving of the Virginia Rep Van.

We will follow all CDC guidelines and safety precautions during rehearsals and performances.

All cast members must be vaccinated against Covid-19. You will need to show proof of vaccination before rehearsals begin.

This stirring drama with music is a classic tribute to the great American who freed herself and hundreds of her people from the bonds of slavery. As Harriet and her friend Sarah Bradford narrate her adventurous life; we share in the joys, sorrows, and challenges faced by this brave woman who changed the world through her courage. This accurate and deeply moving musical history lesson is at turns inspiring, heart-warming, and comical, full of the good humor, determination and the charity of its subject. Students will find a new appreciation for Harriet Tubman and a deeper understanding of her times.

This fun-filled musical is based on the concepts in Carol McCloud's award-winning children's books, "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?", "Growing Up with a Bucket Full of Happiness", and Ann Marie G. Halstead's book "The Bucket Filling Fairy. The books and musical use the concept of a "bucket" to show students how to express kindness, appreciation, and love in order to be "bucket-fillers." The play focuses on the benefits of positive, thoughtful behavior, relaying the joys of friendship and compassion for both the receiver and the giver. The performance is designed to promote healthy relationships and self-esteem for students K-5.



Seeking an actor to play the following role:



Mimi - To play an adult woman, the fun camp counselor at Camp Strawberry Hill, as well as various vignette roles



WHAT TO PREPARE:

Please submit a video audition containing a short monologue (under 1 minute) and a 60-90 second song (roughly 32 bars) from a musical theatre selection or a pop/contemporary selection. Please select works that are family appropriate.
