Northern Stage in White River Junction, VT seeks a Paint and Props Apprentice for its 2021-2022 season. Northern Stage is a LORT D 240 seat regional theater, producing a 6-show mainstage season between the months of August and May, plus educational programs, a New Works Festival, and 4-6 other events year-round. This Apprenticeship is a learning experience and will provide the opportunity for the employee to hone their carpentry skills under the tutelage of experienced professionals.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Work with the Scenic Charge Artist, Props Master, and other production team members to execute, load-in and strike all paint and prop-related builds/projects for productions and events.
Keep paint and props work areas clean and safe.
Assist in procuring props from local businesses and other theatres.
Take on small craft projects in the props department.
Act as part of a run crew as needed.
Provide support for events outside the mainstage and education seasons.
Support other production departments as needed.
College degree in technical theatre.
Interest in and knowledge of theatrical building techniques.
Ability to read construction drawings and build plans.
Proficiency in hand and power tools.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work quickly and accurately with attention to detail, maintaining a positive attitude in fast-paced and rapid-changing environments.
Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a box truck.
Comfortable working at heights in excess of 20 feet in a lift and on a tension mesh grid.
Ability to safely lift 50lbs.
Compensation: $250/ week
Contract Dates: 4/19/21-5/29/22
Housing: Included free of charge
Job Type: Full Time. The standard workdays are Monday – Friday, 9:00am-6:00pm, but expect to work some nights and weekends as the schedule requires.
