Production Manager



Theatre Row, a program of the non-profit Building for the Arts NY, Inc. (BFA), is an Off-Broadway multi-theater complex in the heart of the Theater District that serves as an affordable home for performing arts organizations, and a lively, accessible venue for diverse audiences.



Located just two blocks from Times Square, Theatre Row’s six theaters, five rehearsal studios, and nine offices are rented by over 100 theatre and performance arts companies each year, bringing over 125,000 patrons to Theatre Row annually.



BFA is seeking a full-time Production Manager. The Production Manager (PM) is an active member of Theatre Row’s senior team and is responsible for all aspects of the Production Department at Theatre Row.



This is a 40 hour/week, salaried, exempt position. The PM reports to the Director of Theatre Operations and supervises the Deputy Production & Technical Manager (DPTM) and the Assistant Technical Directors (ATDs). Some flexibility around evening and weekend hours will be required, dependent on production schedule and production team staffing needs.



Responsibilities of the Production Manager include but are not limited to:



• Hiring and supervising production staff, which includes full-time and part-time employees

• Managing production staff scheduling

• Managing theater and building tours for prospective renters

• Acting as the production and technical point of contact for all Theatre Row renters and attending all rental check-in meetings

• Coordination and scheduling for load-ins, load-outs, rep plot hangs, construction, deck maintenance, and other upkeep projects in the spaces

• Overseeing the DPTM in managing Theatre Row’s technical equipment inventory and facilitating equipment repairs when needed

• Collaborating on the creation of, and supervising production department budgets

• Developing, implementing, and codifying production department policies that ensure safe working conditions and high organizational standards

• Advancing BFA’s commitments to inclusion, equity, and diversity in its production staff

• Ensuring that the production staff culture is positive, efficient, inclusive and collaborative

• Acquiring and/or maintaining up to date FDNY fire guard certifications (F-03 and S-95)





Required Qualifications:

• 4+ years supervisory experience

• Knowledge of standard theatrical and event practices, equipment, and software in all areas of theatre production (carpentry, lighting, sound, general maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting)

• Strong interpersonal skills, in addition to exceptional written and oral communication skills with keen attention to detail

• Sound creative judgment, excellent problem-solving skills, and attentiveness to detail

• Excellent time management skills, including managing a high volume of work and attending to numerous projects concurrently

• Strong commitment to current best Health and Safety practices

• Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities

• Ability to read and disseminate information from design drawings

• Sound computer skills including G-Suite, Dropbox, Microsoft Office

• Ability to remain mobile for long periods (4+ hours) of time

• Ability to lift 50 lbs,

• Ability and willingness to work at heights on ladders and operate genie lifts

• Must be available to work extended work hours at times, including nights and weekends



Preferred Qualifications:

• Working knowledge of AEA, USA, AFM, SDC and LORT agreements

• Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion

• On or Off-Broadway experience as a Production Manager, Building & Facilities Manager, and/or Technical Director (or equivalent)

• Working knowledge of computer drafting programs (AutoCAD, Vectorworks)

• Experience managing a multi venue theatre

• Working knowledge of NYC commercial and non-profit theatres & producers



Compensation: Salary is $65,000 - $70,000/year commensurate with experience. In addition to the base salary, BFA offers full-time employees a generous benefits package, including medical and dental, flexible spending accounts (FSA) for health and commuter benefits, 403(b) retirement plan, paid time off, bereavement and parental leave offerings.
