Master Electrician / Stage Manager (Job Title – Technical Associate) - The Den Theatre

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Den Theatre is looking to hire an associate to run, set up, and design lighting and sound for Den produced shows which include comedy, music, and theatrical productions. The associate will work with the Technical Supervisor and the management team to make sure the technical elements of all productions are completed safely, on time, and on budget.



PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Running lighting and sound for Den produced shows as needed, specifically live mixing, including lighting and sound cues.

- Inventorying and maintaining lighting, sound, and electronic inventory for each theatre space.

- Fielding emergency situations (renter or building) when productions are running in the building.

- Working with the Technical Supervisor to make sure that all work is proceeding according to schedule and that deadlines will be met.

- Lighting and sound design, and set up for Den productions (Comedy, Music, and Theatrical)

- Working with Den renters to review and operate Den supplied electrical equipment.

- General building maintenance and repairs (electrical).

- Keeping stage, backstage, and equipment storage areas organized.

- Other duties as assigned.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent job experience.

- Extensive knowledge of electrical distribution and safe practices.

- Previous experience as a stage manager, live mixing, and lighting & sound set up preferred.

- Previous experience with ETC Ion light boards and Midas M32 sound boards is a must.

- Must be comfortable interacting with all members of the Den’s management, box office, and bar staff.

- Must be comfortable working with Microsoft Office programs as well as Google Office Suite applications.

- Attention to detail and organizational skills.

- Must have a willingness to learn new systems and equipment.

- Must be willing to perform any task necessary, holistically, for The Den Theatre’s overall needs.

- Basic carpentry skills preferred, but not required.



HOURS WORKED AND LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT

- This position is a full-time salaried position based on 37.5 hours a week.

- The work week is depending upon the Den’s and our renter’s production schedule; which mainly focus on nights and weekends.

- The position includes health and dental insurance benefits.

- Paid Time Off -

- Ten days of paid, planned-absences (vacation days) per year, available after the first four months of employment.

- Five days of paid, unplanned-absences (sick days) per year.

- Six days of paid holidays per year. Note, although these days are paid, depending on the staffing needs, work may still be required on these days.





WORKING CONDITIONS

- The job will be worked on site, at the Den Theatre in Wicker Park.

- All employees must be either vaccinated against COVID or follow CDC guidelines for entertainment venue areas.

- Workers must be able to carry up to 30 lbs. of materials, be able to climb stairs and ladders, and be prepared to use power tools with or without supervision.

- Reports to Technical Supervisor and Operation Manager.



SALARY

$35,000 a year

Pay periods are the 5th and 20th of each month.
