BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) is a home for adventurous artists, audiences, and ideas—engaging both global and local communities with world-renowned programming in theater, dance, music, opera, film, and much more. With an annual operating budget of approximately $50 million —the majority dedicated directly or indirectly to programming—BAM is a leading presenter of emerging and contemporary artists.



The Human Resource Generalist will run the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including hiring and interviewing staff, administering pay, and enforcing company policies and practices. Ensure data integrity of the HRIS and HR files. Extract, report on and organize data as needed. Coordinate interview scheduling to provide a hospitality-driven experience for candidates.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



• Provide timely and thoughtful support to employees in response to daily HR inquiries.

• Work with the HR team and leadership to drive company culture, support retention and ensure a fulfilling employee experience.

• Processes personnel changes

• Onboard new employees with focus on compliance and benefits

• Advise, communicate, and explain information to employees and managers on new policies and procedures.

• Act as first line employee relations contact by building trusted work relationships with all levels of employees.



REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Bachelor’s degree (Human Resources Management or Business Administration) or equivalent years of experience

o At least 1 to 2 years in an office environment, preferably HR

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Experience managing Human Resources Information Systems

• Strong empathy and interpersonal skills

• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills



Compensation: The salary for this role is $60.000 per year. This position is full-time non-exempt, and BAM offers a full benefits package including medical, dental and vision care, employer-paid life insurance and pension. This is a hybrid position with three days at our Brooklyn location per week required.
