Seeking a skilled THEATRICAL director who can bring to life a staged reading of a historical play by Playwright Alexander Uglov (translated by Alex Fleming). The first reading will be the first step in developing the story and the second reading (perhaps after minor revisions), may be an industry reading. For now, this project is non-union, but the idea is to create a fully professional AEA production.
We are interested in a director with substantial staging experience and creativity, someone with experience in historical drama who can find a rhythm to the storytelling, add creative suggestions, find symbolic substance, and infuse a few layers of engaging emotion to bring this moment in history to life. The reading could be the first step in getting hired for a fully paid production in NYC in 2026-27.
Story: CARDANO'S FORMULA by Alexander Uglov (translated by Alex Fleming).
Set in Renaissance Italy, the play explores the final days and formative memories of mathematician Gerolamo Cardano—a man torn between ambition, legacy, and the people he loves. Blending emotional depth and sharp humor, Cardano’s Formula weaves together themes of genius, rivalry, betrayal, and the search for meaning.
