The Florida Theatre is proud to announce the return of Uncommon Music...for a Common Cause on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 7pm.
Ticket Price is a $10 suggested donation (anything, however, will be accepted!).

Uncommon Music...for a Common Cause is celebrating its 5th annual showcase of local musicians at the Florida Theatre. We invite Jacksonville's premier musicians out of smaller venues (the clubs, bars and restaurants) and reveal their talent to the city by bringing them into the Florida Theatre, a venue that will allow for a true professional performing experience. This annual concert not only provides an invaluable experience for the performers, but also donates the proceeds from the show to a worthy non-profit organization in the same community that supports these musicians, their dreams and their involvement in Jacksonville arts. It is music with a mission.
This year we are proud to benefit Art with a Heart in Healthcare once again as our deserving non-profit. Art with a Heart in Healthcare is a nonprofit organization that provides professionally guided personalized art experiences that enhance the healing process and bring comfort, joy and hope to patients and families in crisis. Their unique free choice arts programs empower patients and families as they embark on their healing journeys.

2011 Line-Up

Stephen Carey
Country/Rock

@StephencCarey

Stephen Carey grew up in Jacksonville and began his musical adventure learning the guitar at age 11. Over the past few years, Carey has played lead guitarist for the band Amaru as well as vocals and guitar for pop rock group Hello Danger. This year sees Carey step out on his own with a unique country sound-certainly a departure from his previous ventures. Carey has said that he gets his inspiration from personal experience and sometimes crazy dreams, but in the end he says "ladies cause us to write songs."

Jordyn Jackson and Shawn Fisher
Jazz Pop/Southern Pop

@jordynjackson
@ThisIsFisher

Jordyn Jackson: Jordyn Jackson's organic and captivating vocals are no better showcased than through her own original songwriting. Jackson has been writing original music for years. In 2003, she released I Dreamt a Dream, a studio album of original songs she co-wrote with Sonny Lallerstedt, a guitarist who has performed with Elton John, followed in 2004, with a self-titled album in collaboration with Lee Miles. In 2006, Jackson joined the band Veronica's Veil and began touring as the lead vocalist, performing their existing songs live as well as recording their first album Middle of Nowhere. Her passion for writing was soon recognized and she began co-writing songs, which in 2009 were released on their second album Enduring Winter. However, shortly after Enduring Winter was released, Jackson departed Veronica's Veil to pursue the solo opportunities that have resulted in her latest venture, September in the Garden.

Shawn Fisher: The son of a classic rock-fan dad and a country-loving mom, Shawn Fisher started in his teens as a solo acoustic artist, working the clubs and coffeehouses of his native Jacksonville, Florida. Although he sometimes performed with his brother Cody on drums and others, it eventually came time to kick things up a few notches, and Shawn decided to put together a band that matched his increasingly wide-screen pop ambitions. Cherry picking from the cream of the local rock scene, he assembled Son of a Bad Man, a southern pop group whose infectious live performances and rich, soaring music has garnered them a fleet of devoted fans.

Sam Pacetti
Acoustic Guitar Wizard

Sam Pacetti is one who brings it all together. A finger style guitar wizard. A deft songwriter, capable of haunting depth and wry humor in the space of one song. An impassioned and ecstatic vocalist, as well as a mesmerizing live performer, seamlessly melding head spinning guitar pyrotechnics and raw emotion into one breathtaking package.

SUNBEARS!
Indie/Psyhcadelic/Electronic Pop

@SUNBEARS

After forming in January of 2008, SUNBEARS!, Jonathan Grant Berlin (vocals, keyboards, bass guitar, guitar, programming) and Jared Chase Bowser (drums), recorded their first EP, FOR EVERYONE! and began performing locally then quickly began playing shows across the nation. SUNBEARS! is known for their high energy and colorfully eccentric live performances. Shortly after returning home from their 2008 tour, SUNBEARS! put the final touches on what would be their next EP entitled, DREAM HAPPY DREAMS. SUNBEARS! has toured with San Francisco-based band, Dredg, with Barsuk recording artists, Mates of State and Columbia recording artists, Black Kids. SUNBEARS! were also selected as one of the best unsigned bands in the May 2010 issue of Alternative Press, and were tapped to record a song for the hit children's television show, Yo Gabba Gabba. In the fall of 2010, Yo Gabba Gabba called once more and invited the band out to perform as part of the "Super Music Friends Show" at the southeast Yo Gabba Gabba Live dates. SUNBEARS! are currently in the process of recording a full length album at The Singing Serpent in New York, NY.
