Fellow Travelers is an opera telling a gay love story set during the McCarthy-era Lavender Scare, exploring decades of government persecution faced by LGBTQ+ Americans. The production incorporates The Lavender Names Project, a living memorial featuring photos and stories of those affected by anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination, displayed on stage at every performance. San Diego Opera presents this national touring production July 10-12, 2026, as part of a multi-city tour that has already visited Seattle Opera and Portland Opera.
