Experience Aidan Dooley's award winning one-man play as it tells the heroic tale of Tom Crean (1877 - 1938), the intrepid, Irish Antarctic explorer and the only man to serve with Scott and Shackleton on three famous expeditions: - Discovery, (1901 - 1904); Terra Nova (1910 - 1913); and Endurance (1914 - 1916). Tom Crean - Antarctic Explorer will be performed for one night only on Thursday 3rd November, 8pm and there are very limited number of tickets remaining by calling the box office 090 6625824 or by purchasing online at www.roscommonartscentre.ie.Written and performed by Aidan Dooley the story, a testament of human fortitude against all the elements of Antarctica, is brought to life in this dramatic solo performance. Crean's thirty-six mile solitary trek to base camp during the Terra Nova expedition to rescue his comrades Teddy Evans and William Lashly; has been described by Antarctic historians as "the finest feat of individual heroism from the entire age of exploration". Stellar cast announced for Nomad's production of The SeafarerFor the last number of years Nomad Theatre Network has strived to produce quality professional productions and tour them to regional venues in the north and west midlands. With award-winning and critically acclaimed productions such as Conversations on a Homecoming and The Dead School under their belts, Nomad have embarked on a new project this autumn working with Galway-based theatre company Decadent and director Andrew Flynn. The network of venues of which Roscommon Arts Centre is a founding member, recently announced their offering for this autumn with Conor McPherson's The Seafarer. A stellar cast including many famous faces from both stage and screen has just been announced and includes Garrett Keogh, Frankie McCafferty, Joe Savino, Robert O'Mahoney and Paul Roe. The Seafarer tells the story of one day in the lives of two wayward brothers and their friends who come together on Christmas Eve to play a game of cards. In the midst of this eerie, darkly humorous tale, celebrated playwright Conor McPherson tells the tender story of a family and examines how we face the demons of our past as we struggle to find redemption. A haunting tale of local lads in holiday spirits on one unforgettable evening; where everyone lays their cards and their souls on the table. The Seafarer comes to Roscommon Arts Centre for three performances only from Monday 14th - Wednesday 16th November.
