'A Viennese Evening...with a Twist' will bring the magic of nineteenth century Vienna to the beautiful surroundings of Mount Juliet, presented by Evelyn Grant

Evelyn will introduce an ensemble from the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland for two performances on July 30th and July 31st. Conducted by Evelyn herself, these talented players will perform the much-loved Blue Danube Waltz, alongside some of the greatest and most-loved compositions by the Waltz King, Johann Strauss Jnr, and his father, Johann Snr, the composer of the famous Radetsky March.

They will be joined by soprano Molly Lynch who will show her versatility in songs ranging from 'Poor wandering one' to 'Skyfall'.

The younger Strauss was a much-loved and admired composer in the late 1800s. Perhaps unusually, he was roundly praised by other composers of the era, including the notably taciturn Richard Wagner. Johannes Brahms was a close friend and a huge fan of his work.

There is a famous story about Brahms, who was once asked for an autograph by Strauss's wife Adele. It was a custom in those days for opera attendees favoured by a certain composer to have their fans signed. Yet so taken was Brahms with Strauss and his work that he wrote a couple of lines from The Blue Danube on the fan and signed below it "...Unfortunately NOT by Johannes Brahms." Such was the esteem in which the Waltz King was held.

It is this great composer's work which will be celebrated in Mount Juliet. The orchestra's programme will have a flavour of the Ballroom of Romance and there will also be some up-tempo tunes of more recent times, all performed with the vibrant versatility and virtuosity that these young people bring in abundance to their performances.

The evening promises music of the highest quality presented in the informal yet informative style for which broadcaster Evelyn Grant is renowned.

Tickets are €20 each, tickets can be reserved online at www.mountjuliet.ie/NYOI
