FringeNYC Application Deadline Extends to April 8

After a one-year hiatus to restructure and re-envision, The New York International Fringe Festival will present the 21st festival this October - the first time the festival will be presented in the fall instead of its usual end-of-summer slot.

The application deadline for FringeNYC has been extended to April 8, 2018. Applications received by the original deadline of March 28th will still receive notification (accepted, alternated, declined) on or around May 16th. Applicants who meet the extended deadline of April 8th will be notified until on or around June 1st. PLEASE NOTE the extended deadline can only be offered to local and national applicants. International applications MUST be submitted by the original deadline in order to meet the required visa preparation schedule.

"Between Facebook's new algorithm, the pace of the news cycle these days and our new festival calendar, many of our local and national artists and alumni missed the fact that we'd set a deadline for FringeNYC applications," notes Producing Artistic Director Elena K. Holy. "There were a substantial number of requests for a bit more time both to help us spread the word as well as get their own applications in. So we are happy to say that we have figured out a way to make that happen this year."

The New York International Fringe Festival is now FringeNYC AND FringeBYOV:

FringeNYC: This year, the adjudicated festival will be smaller, offering programming by approximately 100 of the world's best emerging theatre troupes and dance companies in approximately 10 theaters in Downtown Manhattan. FringeNYC applications for 2018 are available online at www.fringenyc.org and are currently being accepted for participants in all genres (theatre, dance, puppetry, performance art, multi-media, etc.). Completed applications are now due April 8, 2018. Applicants are able to upload their cover letter, script and support materials and pay a $40 application fee via PayPal.

FringeBYOV: In 2018, for the first time ever, the festival will include a BYOV ("Bring Your Own Venue") component in boroughs other than Manhattan, providing an open access opportunity for additional emerging artists to present their work under the auspices of The New York International Fringe Festival. These venues can be run as adjudicated, curated, or first-come-first-served / lottery or in whatever way the venues wish. Venue owners/managers can apply to make their venue part of the 2018 festival online at www.fringenyc.org. There is an early application deadline for this component on April 15, 2018 with a final deadline of July 27, 2018. Complete details are available at www.fringenyc.org.

Additionally, any FringeNYC alumni show (a show that was presented previously at FringeNYC or any show that is being produced by a FringeNYC alumnus company or ACR) that will be presented at a venue in an outer borough during the month of October is welcome to register to participate in the festival. Producers who are interested in participating can register their show online beginning June 1st at www.fringenyc.org. Registration deadline for this component is July 27, 2018. FringeNYC is a production of The Present Company, under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Elena K. Holy. In 2016, FringeNYC was awarded the Ellen Stewart Award (presented to an individual or organization demonstrating a significant contribution to the Off-Off-Broadway community through service, support and leadership) by the New York Innovative Theatre Awards.

In 1997, New York City became the seventh US city to host a fringe festival, joining Seattle, Chicago, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Houston, Orlando and San Francisco. FringeNYC has presented over 3000 performing groups representing every continent, prompting Switzerland's national daily, The New Zurich Zeitung, to declare FringeNYC as "the premiere meeting ground for alternative artists." FringeNYC has also been the launching pad for numerous Off-Broadway and Broadway transfers, long-running downtown hits, and regional theater productions including Urinetown, Matt & Ben, Never Swim Alone, The Jammer, Debbie Does Dallas, Dog Sees God, Brandon Teena, Dixie's Tupperware Party, 21 Dog Years, The Irish Curse, Jurassic Parq, The Fartiste, Silence! The Musical and 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche; movies including WTC View and Armless; and even a TV show ('da Kink in My Hair).
