New Amsterdam Establishes New Partnership with Indianapolis Symphony

New Amsterdam--a non-profit artist-services organization and record label dedicated to supporting the public's engagement with new music by composers and performers whose work grows from the fertile ground between genres--is honored to announce it has teamed up with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in a unique residency that will focus on the artistic exploration into many forms of music in a symphonic format. Over the next two years, the ISO will periodically showcase the sophisticated, adventurous sound of highly trained composers and instrumentalists of the New Amsterdam community. In addition, New Amsterdam will work with the Orchestra in developing educational activities and community outreach programs that will bring the open-minded ethos of New Am into direct engagement with the needs of the greater ISO community.

The Madame Walker Theatre Center celebrates the first African-American U.S. President on one of the most of the most historically acclaimed Holidays of the year. Today, January 21st, 2013 is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day as well as the inauguration of President Obama as the 44th President of the United States. The Walker will stream the inauguration, happening in Washington D.C., live in the historic 937-seat theatre.
Civic Theatre Announces Winners of 4th Annual Northeast Indiana Playwright Festival

The 4th Annual Playwright Festival will be held May 31 - June 2, 2013 at the Arts United Center and the Fort Wayne Museum of Art (adjacent at 303 & 311 E. Main Street, Fort Wayne, IN). The featured play will be Lombard by Michael B. Druxman, starring Jessica Butler as screen legend Carole Lombard. The featured play opens Friday, May 31 at 8pm and will also be performed during the festival on Sunday, June 2 at 2pm (with post-show discussion featuring playwright Michael B. Druxman). Lombard will run weekends through June 9.
Buck Creek Players Continue 39th Season With ESCANABA IN DA MOONLIGHT, 1/25-2/3

The Buck Creek Players will continue their 2012-2013 season 'In the Spotlight' with the hilarious comedy Escanaba in da Moonlight, written by Jeff Daniels (The Hours, Terms of Endearment, Dumb and Dumber). Opening Friday, January 25th, and running for two weekends through Sunday, February 3rd, curtain times will be at 8:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, with 2:30 p.m. matinees offered on Sundays. All performances will be held at the Buck Creek Playhouse on Indianapolis' southeast-side at 11150 Southeastern Avenue. Tickets are $15 for adults and $13 for students (through college), and senior citizens (ages 62 and older). This production is recommended for audiences ages 13 and older. Reservations are recommended and may be reserved online at www.buckcreekplayers.com, or by calling (317) 862-2270. Group discounts are also available for parties of ten or more.

Travel with The Acting Ensemble back to the days of the 1960s avant-garde theater movement when AE presents Tom Eyen's absurdist comedy Why Hanna's Skirt Won't Stay Down as the theater company's next StageWorks stage reading. The play brings alive all the crudeness, brashness, and exuberance of the era. Hanna, a 42nd Street ticket taker, enjoys her spare time relaxing over a breeze hole in Coney Island, until one day she meets a young narcissist, and Hanna's life is changed forever. The New York Times called the original production "a very evocative play, shabby, sleazy, but defiant."
