A local spray paint artist will be showing off his skills in Indianapolis, near the Broad Ripple area, to promote the Broadway smash-hit musical American Idiot that premieres at Clowes Memorial Hall April 2 - 7, 2013. The artwork will be displayed on the side of Sigman's Gallery on the corner of Winthrop and Broad Ripple Avenue. Robert Bentley, an IUPUI Herron School of Art and Design senior, has been involved with spray paint murals for 10 years and will be showcasing his talent at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2013. Opportunities for interviewing and video will be available while spectators watch the art unfold.

Who: Graffiti artist Robert Bentley grew up in Indianapolis and went to Broad Ripple High School. After searching for a college that better matched his personality, Bently ended at IUPUI Herron School of Art and Design. Bentley describes graffiti being a rebellious act when he was younger, but now has come to the realization that "graffiti is the only uncensored, uncorrupted form of public art left in the world," Bentley said. "No one can cage it, no one can control it, it is like a wild animal coexisting with society, and the best part is it is everywhere."

American Idiot is a Broadway show premiering at Clowes Memorial Hall of Butler University. The show tells the story of three lifelong friends, forced to choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia. Their quest for true meaning in a post 9/11 world leads them on the most exhilarating theatrical journey of the season. For 40 years, Clowes Memorial Hall of Butler University, a professional performing arts facility, has been dedicated to lifelong learning in and through the arts. Our mission is to educate, enrich and entertain the citizens of Indiana and the Butler University community by presenting, promoting and hosting culturally, artistically and internationally diverse programs, events and collaborations.
