Gati Pravah (Gati literally meaning speed and pravah meaning flow) is a collage of kathak compositions presented by the accomplished dancers of Kadamb Centre of Dance.

The programme commences with Dhamar, a piece based on the movement structure of ‘Nritta’ (pure dance), very abstract in form. It comprises of graceful movements that are also brisk and the dancer covers the floor in fast-moving patterns of the feet, arms and pirouettes exhibiting virtuosity and control on the traditional Kathak dance.

The second item Mero Mann, depicts the love of Radha and Krishna in the ‘Sringaar Rasa’ with the emphasis on the abhinaya of the dancer. This is followed by Suverna, a dance piece that was specially choreographed to celebrate the fiftieth year of India’s Independence. A group of dancers continuously weaves patterns in dance, decorating the space with movements and rhythms bringing a sense of joy and celebration among themselves and their audience. This composition in Kathak combines its various elements of the physical structure and rhythmic virtuosity to create an eloquent flow of kinesis.

Sparsh is a surprise item presented by two senior most dancers and teachers of Kadamb, Prashant Shah and Sanjukta Sinha.

Gati Pravah concludes with a Tarana. In the repertoire of the Indian classical music, Tarana is a form of singing in which there is no content of poetry or words instead the singer uses ‘bols’ or syllables to the melody of the `Raga` set to a given rhythm. This particular dance composition is visualization in the movements of the flow of the musical patterns of this melody.
