It can be both an emotional and joyful journey to reminisce about 40 long years spent producing and making good theatre. Naseeruddin Shah, one of the finest Indian actors was in the same reflective mode when he came to celebrate 40 years of his theatre company -Motley.

A visibly emotional Shah, on the occasion of customary lighting the lamp ceremony was also seen along with other theatre stalwarts such as Akash Khurana, Meera Khurana, Benjamin Gilani, Kunal Kapoor, Jairaj Patil, and Manhar Gadhia. The group lighted the lamp and post the ceremony, Shah took time out to speak to the audience. With his trademark gray hair and a quick, wit Shah remarked: "Sometimes you wonder forty is the beginning of old age or whether as they say life begins at forty. So whichever it is we hope we'll still be around another twenty years to celebrate our sixtieth! Thank you all for coming it's really wonderful to have you all here and thank you for supporting our work."

Motley Theatre, a premier theatre production company which is conceptualized and headed by Naseeruddin Shah and his actor wife Ratna Pathak Shah, is completing its 40 years. The theatre veterans decided to mark the occasion by organizing a festival entitled Motleyana. The festival took off on July 16 and has in store a number of classic plays and legendary works that have been shown on the stage in the past. Motleyana festival is being held at Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai.
