One of the essential questions of our relationship to the world is the nature of our freedom. In this performance of the Duna Art Ensemble, two images appear of two worlds very far apart from each other, taking this fundamental theme as a starting point. The first dance scene evokes the “idyllic” vision of freedom of a rustic existence in tune with nature, through the authentic folk dances and musical traditions that have crystallized over centuries in the spiritual consciousness of the Hungarian people of the Carpathian Basin. The second part visualizes the complex notion of freedom inherent in an urban existence, with the aid of a distinctive language originating in Hungarian peasant culture but built on contemporary folk dance of a more modern outlook that incorporates the sounds of world music.
