Elizabeth Macy, a Black woman passing for white in 1946, lives her life on the cusp of reality and dreams. She breaks herself down into thirds, juggling three separate identities for the benefit of others. Eliza, the doting housewife-to-be to her white fiancé Barry Rhodes. Ellie, the passionate hopeless romantic who loves Delilah Graves fiercely. Bes, the troubled daughter of Helen Macy, a woman who is trying her best. That is, until Elizabeth chooses herself. And the choice she makes? It’s almost like flying.
