The Country Playhouse Presents A CHRISTMAS CAROL, Now thru 12/24

By:

The Country Playhouse will present A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, performed by John Stevens on its Cerwinske main stage for three weekends only, tonight, December 6 – 24. Opening night is tonight, December 6, at 7:30 p.m., then on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., with two Sunday matinees on December 9 and December 16 at 2:00 p.m., plus Thursday, December 13, at 7:30 p.m., and closing on Christmas Eve.

Join us for Christmas carols in the lobby, led by choristers from local churches, for hot cider and Figgy Pudding, plus door prizes at intermission. This production was a great success last year, acclaimed by critics and audiences alike, so we're restaging it and enhancing its scenic presence, to repay the enthusiastic response it received and live up to its fond reputation.

All ages love this ageless "ghost story," a true tradition to share. In creating his own adaptation, Stevens takes his cue from Dickens himself, who used to tour the country retelling it onstage, and from Patrick Stewart's one-man dramatization. "I have always loved this story," says Stevens. "No holiday season is complete for me without a generous helping of Scrooge, poor Jacob Marley, the three ghosts, Old Joe the fence, all the assorted Cratchits, nephew Fred, and all the rest – such vivid characters, and so much wonderful descriptive narrative."

Most recently seen at The Country Playhouse in Frankenstein and Below the Belt, John Stevens has appeared on Houston-area stages for some 25 years now, often in leading roles in classic plays, including famed Dickensian villain Fagin in Oliver Twist.  He also does another one-man show, Barrymore by William Luce, as originally staged byChristmas Carol director Bonnie Hewett.

Ticket prices are $15 for adults, or $12 for students, seniors, and children. Call the box office at 713-467-4497 for reservations, or make them online atwww.countryplayhouse.org (at no additional charge).

Country Playhouse is located at 12802 Queensbury, Houston 77024 (across from City Centre), just two blocks east of the Sam Houston Tollway.
