Texas Rep's GREETINGS Opens this Week
The Texas Rep Theatre Co., Houston's Uptown Classic Theatre, continues a tradition of holiday entertainment excellence in it's Ninth season with Tom Dudzick's remarkable Christmas comedy GREETINGS! Directed in a new production by Texas Repertory Artistic Director Steven Fenley, and featuring a stellar cast of Houston's finest performers, GREETINGS! will preview on December 4th, celebrate its Gala Opening on December 6th, and run 4 performances a week through December 23rd.
Andy Gorski brings home his Jewish atheist fiancé to meet his very Catholic parents on Christmas Eve, paving the way for what seems to be a most interesting (and explosive) family occasion. All of this is soon changed however by a truly miraculous event that convinces all concerned of the deep and powerful bond between them... and helps them realize that instead of focusing on what has distanced them from each other, they must first accept the loving truth of what ties them together. It's an antidote, not only for pre-holiday anxiety, but for the apathy of modern life. A touching, thought-provoking, and quirky holiday farce, GREETINGS! is a comic fable, an uplifting fantasy, and the kind of Christmas play that comes along all too rarely.
The Texas Repertory Theatre production of GREETINGS! features Texas Rep company members Alan Hall and Marylin Ocker, as well as J. Cameron Cooper, Greg Cote, and Claire Anderson making their Texas Repertory Theatre debut under the direction of Texas Repertory Artistic Director Steven Fenley.
