A beloved TV classic for the whole family soars off the screen and onto the stage of The Grand 1894 Opera House this holiday season! RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER: THE MUSICAL will be presented at 2pm and 7pm today, December 19, 2015 and is sponsored in part by Sunny 99.1 and is part of Galveston Island's Winter Wonder Island Celebration.

Tickets may be purchased at The Grand's Box Office, 2020 Postoffice Street, by calling 409.765.1894, 800.821.1894, or online at www.thegrand.com. Local support is provided by Sunny 99.1.

In 1939, Montgomery Ward Department Store advertising copywriter Robert L. May created the story of "Rudolph" as a free pamphlet distributed by the store during the busy holiday shopping season. Ten years later, Robert's brother-in-law turned the story into a Christmas song, premiered by singing cowboy actor Gene Autrey at Madison Square Garden in New York City in 1949. "Rudolph" quickly became one of the biggest Christmas hits of all time, selling over 25 million copies. Only Bing Crosby's version of "White Christmas" has sold more. The television special "Rudolph," based on the hit song and sung by Burl Ives, was first broadcast in 1964 and has become the longest-running Christmas special in television history.

RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER: THE MUSICAL includes everyone's favorite characters from the TV special including Santa and Mrs. Claus, Hermey the Elf, Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster, Clarice, Yukon Cornelius and, of course, Rudolph. The show is an adventure that teaches children that what makes you different can be what makes you special. Don't miss this wonderful holiday tradition that speaks to the misfit in all of us.
